Octavio Espejo

Octavio is an Electro-Mechanical Engineer from Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey (ITESM), and anAttorney at Law from Universidad del Valle de México (UVM).
In 2005 he started acquiring experience on patent matters, and since then he has been exercising as a consultant on patent analysis, namely in the areas of mechanics, electrics, industrial designs and computer-implemented inventions. Octavio has been the head of the Docketing and Rights Maintenance Department of the Firm.

He is currently the leader of the Patents and Technology team, being responsible for patents, utility models and industrial designs filing, prosecution and maintenance; technological intelligence studies, IP valuation and technical aspects of patent litigation; and also manages the Technology Transfer Office. He additionally leads the operation of the Branch located in Guadalajara and the department of Specialized Translations.

Other relevant activities:

The Japanese Patent Office (JPO) invited him to attend the post-graduate course JPO/IPR Training Course for Practitioners Specializing in Patents (IPPP) which was given at the Japan Institute for Promoting Invention and Innovation (JIPII), Overseas Human Resources and Industry Development Association (HIDA) and Asia-Pacific Industrial Property Center (APIC).

Octavio has written several articles for national and international publications, including Mexico’s contribution to the book entitled “Design Rights – Functionality and Scope of Protection” joint publication by AIPPI y Wolters Kluwer. He was a speaker at the conference entitled “Industrial Design protection in Mexico” during the Pan-American YMC of LES in 2016 (Ottawa CA), and the AIPLA Mid-Winter Institute in 2017 (Ft Lauderdale FL), and AIPPI World Congress (Cancún) in 2019, among others.
