IMMINENT CHANGES TO THE PRIORITY CLAIM IN MEXICO

The first week of November will bring the most relevant legislative update on intellectual property in Mexico since 1991. The new Federal Law for the Protection of Industrial Property (LPPI) will enter into force, which will lead to many changes in the current local IP practice. Among the new provisions of the law, the basic rules to claim a priority have been reconsidered. In addition, WIPO has announced the incorporation of the Mexican Institute of Industrial Property (IMPI) to the Digital Access Service (DAS) as a Depositing and Accessing office.
